English in Valley Village, CA

We are seeking an experienced English teacher to work with our 9th grade son Monday-Thursday from 4:10-5:30 at his school campus, which is a private Orthodox Jewish school in Valley Village. Our son has ADHD and will be using this instructional time to replace his regular English classroom instruction. He needs one-on-one instruction in this area and it is approved by the school to use this pull-out session in a private classroom at the school, at the end of the school day instead of during the regular English period. The English teachers at the school are willing to coordinate with you as needed. You will provide instruction in: Reading comprehension for literature and nonfiction esp. textbooks 9th grade literature classics such as The Odyssey, Shakespeare, etc. How to write an analytical 5-paragraph essay How to format and use citations for formal writing How to identify and analyze figurative language and literary devices Expand grammar skills and vocabulary During this time you may also be providing instruction for: Study and testing skills Typing and word processing/Microsoft Word literacy Note-taking Organization of materials If time allows: Help with homework for honors World History class A major plus if you can help out with honors Geometry homework from time to time!
