Calculus in Anna, IL

I am a student at Shawnee Community College and was leaning toward pursuing an Engineeering Degree. Math has always been one of my best subjects. I took pre-calculus last spring and got a high A. I am having issues with my instructors methods of teaching. I am unsure of the proper notations and forms that my answers should be written. I have asked a couple of questions in class but it seemed the teacher was more interested in making me feel like an idiot than he was to help me. I cant get much out of the notes I do get copied not to mention the ones that he erases before I can get them down. My biggest issue is seeing because he stand in front of the board while he is writing and does not explain what is going on. He skips steps and claims we should know so he isn't going over this. I have attempted to ask and seek answers but he only made me feel like a piece of trash in front of the whole class. I went to his office during office hours and for some reason I cant get anything out of his methods of teaching. I have also went to my previous instructor for pre-calculus and the same notes that I took he helped me fill in the missing pieces and quickly went over the material with me. I quickly understood and caught on to things. He has told me that I will do fine. The issue is when I get out of class I am completely lost and confused. I have already received a horrible grade on a homework assignment because I became completely confused and only found enough help to cover half of the assignment. I was unable to figure out the second half and had to turn it in the day we went over it. I am struggling with the fact that my new instructor makes me feel like I should know all the things that I don't and getting him to assist me only makes things worse. I am stuck with the questions, Am I going in to the wrong career field, is calculus too much for me, Should I drop the class before I commit academic suicide and mess up my GPA? The hardest thing on me is that I have a 3.7 gpa and currently hold a position as VP of Service in our colleges Honor Society Fraternity, Phi Theta Kappa and this requires me to keep certain grades. The exact class I am having issues with is Calculus I, We skipped review and hit the ground running Discussing Limits and I am currently lost in my homework on continuity. Next Monday I have class and really hope to finish my assignment by that time. Calculus (early transcendental functions) 6 ed is the book we are in. Larson/Edwards are the authors, and we were told that we will make it through Chapter 2 which is where we started. and then do section 3.1 I believe it is over derivitives and have a test over all of that not this Monday but the next. I need a tutor that can give me advice and will take the time to hear me out and let me know if I am over thinking everything and I am anxious over nothing or If I should really consider choosing a career path that does not require extensive math and calculus backgrounds. I do have transportation. I was wondering how much cheaper you would be willing to go down to from 40 an hour, I went last semester working forty hours a week, I have two daughters and took 15 college credit hours and I made all A's. I am working very little and spending much more time trying to keep my grades high. I just don't understand how I could go from a well rounded student to a lost puppy? Any suggestions or tips would be nice. I try to check my email as often as possible but sometimes I am busy. My number is (phone number available after purchase) if you really feel like you would be interested and able to assist me. Thank You. Sorry for rambling but this is the first class and instructor I have encountered that I find myself completely stressed out!!!

  • Prof BAM is absolutely amazing. In 3 weeks, brought my son's regents test score up 14 points. He's professional and extremely good at what he does. He shows his students how to break the test questions down to be more successful. He always works with our busy schedule. Highly recommend.
