Dyslexia in Central Islip, NY

My daughter has an iep and I was just told she is at a reading level of a 5th grader she is in 8th grade. I was very upset when I heard this and according to her counselor she my have dyslexia. I had it when I was a kid. She is being tested through a neurologist but I am looking ahead to see what I can do to help her further. I live in Yaphank and I might want a private tutor for her but I not sure how a person with dyslexia is tutored or what it entails or what you do. If you can get back to me that would be great.
