Hello, I'm looking for a tutor for my son to increase his reading comprehension and test taking skills. Jack is in 7th grade (Gravelly Hill Middle School in Efland) and has had struggles with reading. He can watch a movie or show and explain, in detail, the plot. If he watches a documentary or film in class he can do the same. He can have a hard time reading text and then pulling information needed to correctly answer the questions on a written test. My husband and I are concerned because he's never "passed" his EOG tests but he was promoted through the grades because he could pass the classwork. However, it is our understanding that he will have to pass the 8th grade EOGs or he won't be promoted to high school. So we are looking for a tutor to help him with a few things. His been strong in math but word problems have been a challenge. His reading has improved but he stills needs help with reading a passage, understanding the meaning and then answer set questions. He does have an IEP in place and at this point his modifications are for standardized tests he is pulled into small group and mark in book. We are looking for someone willing to come to the home once or twice a week. They would have to have a lot of patience as Jack can get anxious with any kind of homework help.
