elementary in Oakland, CA
Hi Susannah,
Nice to meet you. We are looking to hire a tutor/teacher who might be interested in teaching a 4th grader in this school year.
We switched our daughter out from local public school to homeschool for a yearr now. Do you have any experience teaching homeschoolers and elementary grade students? She is a native speaker and her Lexile level was tested as between 753-903L back in January. She loves to read, but I think she needs some help on writing and some comprehension. I am looking for a regular tutor for her that can meet once every other week, 1.5 hours each time. Nurturing her love of learning is the #1 important goal for us. I want her to enjoy her learning experience and find Language Art/writing interesting.
We are big on creative writing, applying skills and techniques (grammar) onto topics that interest her. We are currently using BJU as our curriculum, and we will continue to use it. We had a tutor last school year, unfortunately, she moved out of states during summer to pursue her PHD, so we have to look for a new teacher. We just tried someone else for 2 sessions, but unfortunately, she might not be a good fit, so we are in the search again.
These are some of the skills/thoughts that we have/are looking for:
- No grammar worksheets/drills.
- Skills like brain storming, organizing thoughts (stay on thoughts), writing structures, details elaborations
- Focus on creativity, articulated, meaningful and beautiful writings
- Positive guidance
- Quality not quantity.
- Efficiency not speed.
- Development (takes time) not solution (cure/fix).
- Facilitate not correction
Anyway, thank you so much for reading our message, and if you are interested in this opportunity, please feel free to contact us, so we can discuss further.
P.S. we live in Oakland hill, and we would like to meet mostly at Rockridge library. Desired time: 10:30a-12noon. Every other Wednesday for 1.5 hour.
Sincerely,
J.
