"Hi, I'm Larissa! I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, and I am certified to teach Grades 1-8. I also have a Master of Business Administration degree in Accounting. I have taught middle school math, grades 6, 7, and 8 for 17 years, and I have coached UIL mathematics and number sense contests. I am currently teaching part time at my local college in the Adult Education GED program.

While teaching in a public school setting, I provided before and after school tutoring for students who needed a little extra practice or more clarification on any concepts. I have also tutored online for about 3 years, using the Remind platform. My students lived all over the United States, and they were in grades kindergarten up to 9th grade.

When I'm teaching a concept, I like to introduce new concepts with hands on activities to make the concept more understandable, and then move forward in steps, to just using the algorithm. When I tutor, I use the same process because I want to make sure my students have a good foundational understanding before moving forward. Taking the extra time to go backwards a bit and ensure a good solid foundation helps tremendously in the long run.
