"Hi! I'm Jeremy. I'm a graduate of Brown University (Biology) and U.C. Berkeley (M.S., Renewable Energy), and I've tutored privately and taught in middle school and high school classrooms since 2000. I enjoy making math and science accessible and understandable for students of all ages and ability levels. I also enjoy helping them prepare for standardized tests such as the PSAT, SAT, ACT, or the ICEE.

I am the 7th Grade Science teacher at St. Paul’s Episcopal School on Lake Merritt in Oakland, and I supplement that role with tutoring on evenings and weekends. In terms of my tutoring background, for many years I have supported dozens and dozens of middle schoolers and high schoolers through private tutoring at students’ homes in all levels of math and science up through Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, AP Pre-Calc, Statistics, AP Calculus AB, AP Biology, AP Physics, and AP Chemistry. Also, I was the math tutoring specialist at The Raskob School on the Holy Names University campus in Oakland, where I helped students with one or more learning challenges, such as dyslexia, ADHD, or high-functioning autism, to grow in confidence and build their identities as capable math students.

My tutoring approach is quite consistent regardless of the age, subject area, or level I am teaching: I meet the student where they are in terms of what is solid and not solid in their learning background. Using a casual and supportive tone, I quickly find where and how I can challenge them with right-sized steps, while simultaneously supporting and encouraging them. Often using practice problems as context, the student and I simultaneously build their problem solving abilities and deepen their understanding of the underlying concepts.
