"Hi there, My name is Brent Beerman. I have 35 years as a certified English to help your student succeed. I have a masters degree from UCLA, and I have taught English 9, Speech and Debate, AP English Language, and AP English Literature in the California public school system. My AP classes have had a 95% pass rate over the past five years with 45% of my students receiving a 4 or 5 on the AP test.
I also have extensive experience with ACT and SAT test prep, as well as, working with students in the College Application process including helping them with their personal statements. I have worked closely with application counselors at UCLA, USC and Occidental College and as a result, I know the current trends for incoming college freshman.
Writing does't have to be a mystery. It is not always a natural instinct, which is why so many students struggle with their own writing. Writing is an empirical process that follows a template until it is developed into an instinct. What has made me unique as a English teacher is my extensive one on one work with my students. The writing process includes writing workshops in which I am able to guide the students directly. More importantly, I help my students become independent editors of their own work. I have developed a vocabulary that helps students identify the problems in their writing and they are trained to follow the steps to improve. I am not their editor, but rather, I mentor them through the process helping them to become independent thinkers.
After 35 years, I am finally retiring from teaching in the public schools, and I am now ready for a new chapter in my educational career. I am looking forward to using my skills to work directly with an individual student and help them develop as a mature writer and reader." less...
