"Hi! My name is Claire, and I am a third-year student at UC Santa Cruz. I am pursuing a double major in Earth Science (B.S.) and Environmental Studies (B.A.) with a Concentration in Conservation Science and Policy. I am passionate about teaching English, writing, and reading at the elementary level. I have approximately 3 years of experience working with kids in both classroom and hands-on learning environments. I genuinely enjoy helping students feel more confident in their learning. I’ve worked mostly with elementary and middle school students, supporting them in reading, STEM, and other general academic skills. One of my favorite experiences was volunteering as a Reading Buddy at the Sunnyvale Library, where I worked one-on-one with young readers to build literacy skills while making reading fun and approachable. I’ve also worked as a Lead Counselor at Engineering For Kids, where I taught interactive STEM lessons through games, experiments, and group projects. I created lesson plans that encouraged problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork, ensuring each student felt supported, regardless of their experience level. I also served as a Teaching Assistant at Leadways School and as a 3rd-grade Teacher’s Assistant at Stocklmier Elementary, where I helped run classroom activities, supported students one-on-one, and learned how to adapt lessons to different learning styles.
Outside of traditional classrooms, I’ve worked as a Senior Volunteer and Counselor at Imagineerz Learning, leading creative workshops focused on STEM and critical thinking. Across all these roles, I’ve worked in one-on-one, small-group, and classroom settings, both as a volunteer and instructor. My goal as a tutor is to make learning less stressful and more engaging, while helping students build skills, confidence, and curiosity. My goal is to meet students where they’re at and support them in a way that feels encouraging, structured, and fun." less...
