"My name is Kristina, and I am a senior Psychology student with minors in Disability Studies and Film Studies at Miami University in Oxford, OH. I pride myself in my communication skills and just recently worked for a program as a Dialogue Co-Facilitator about intercultural communication, conflict resolution, and preparing students for the workforce. I also have spent the last two semesters as a certified Theatrical Co-Intimacy Coordinator, and feel confident in my leadership skills and ability to designate exercises to people and students to suit their needs.
As a psychology student I take a very patient and empathy-focused method of interacting with students. I want students to feel empowered by their abilities, not upset that they aren't where they want to be. So to do this, I find it really important to meet someone where they're at, celebrate achievements, and also ask and wait to see what they think an answer would be and why before I go ahead and talk through it myself. Drawing connections to real-life applications is also a proven and studied method of making sure concepts are actually retained in memory- so I try to do this wherever I can.
I can teach all levels of high school French, but most confidently years 1 & 2. What sets me apart from other tutors is that not only have I gone through this same schooling, but if it is wanted, I can take specific time to work on speech and pronunciation. Before I went back to French later on in life especially for writing and grammar, the first time I learned French was by ear as a toddler, as my mom is completely fluent and from Quebec, Canada. Therefore, I have always excelled in understanding pronunciation and can help with American accent reduction for learners. However, careful because a European might say I have an odd Canadian accent! I am also studying abroad in Luxembourg this fall, and will likely be staying with a French host family." less...
