"I am a mathematics educator with formal training in math education and classroom experience teaching middle and high school students. I am currently completing a Master’s degree in Mathematics Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, where my coursework focuses on making mathematics accessible to all learners through discovery-based learning, reasoning, and multiple representations. This training emphasizes helping students build understanding by exploring patterns, asking questions, and justifying their thinking, rather than relying on memorization or rote procedures.
My teaching experience includes both classroom instruction and one-on-one support. I recently completed a student teaching placement in a New York City public high school, where I taught Algebra I and worked with a wide range of learners, including students who struggled with foundational skills, English language learners, and students with individualized learning needs. In both classroom and tutoring settings, I have supported students across different ability levels by adjusting instruction to meet them where they are and helping them develop confidence alongside skill.
As a tutor, I focus on identifying gaps in understanding and rebuilding them in a way that makes math feel logical and manageable. I use questioning, visual models, and explanation-based practice so students learn how to reason through problems on their own. I typically work with middle school and high school students in Algebra, Geometry, and related coursework, as well as students preparing for standardized exams. My goal is not only to help students improve academically, but to help them feel capable and confident when approaching math independently." less...
