"For three years as an undergraduate student, I taught students from communities in the Greater Boston area as a teaching fellow for the Tufts University Center for Engineering Education Outreach. I designed and applied curricula focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) topics (e.g., HTML programming, environmental health activities, robotics, hands-on art and science activities). I incorporated educational tools for auditory, visual, and tactile learners to make education more accessible and inclusive for a diverse student body. In 2016, after completing my undergraduate studies, I continued to mentor young students as a bilingual math and reading comprehension tutor in parallel with my professional job as an environmental health consultant. I have honed an expertise in crafting questions, answers, and adapting explanations to students’ needs.
At UC Berkeley during my Master’s program, I continued taking pedagogy courses and working as a lead Graduate Student Instructor, where I designed course curriculum, assessment rubrics, exam questions, and engaging instructional material for weekly lesson plans. I have led interactive in-person discussion sections of approximately 20-35 students for environmental health science (EHS) courses (i.e., planetary boundaries, environmental epidemiology, epigenetics, risk assessment, and chemical regulations). It’s always been a priority for me to establish and develop relationships with my students via drop-in office hours, individual meetings (in-person or virtual), or group zoom calls to serve as a valuable resource and advocate for them. In Spring of 2022, I received an outstanding graduate student instructor award from Berkeley’s EHS department, demonstrating my dedication to prior teaching teams and willingness to develop practical learning materials that incorporate students’ feedback and adhere to interdisciplinary learning styles." less...
