"Hello! My name is Maize and I am currently in the Neuroscience PhD program at Ohio State University. I completed my undergraduate career at Case Western Reserve University with a degree in biochemistry. During this time, I worked in the lab of Dr. Ryan Arvidson learning about the possible neuroprotective effects of emerald jewel wasp venom on the cockroach brain. After graduating, I worked as a research assistant in the laboratory of Dr. Bruce Trapp at the Cleveland Clinic. Here, I investigated the role of microglia in various types of multiple sclerosis lesions using spatial transcriptomics. Now I work in the lab of Dr. Giles Plant at OSU. My focus is on the immune response associated with spinal cord injury and regeneration.

I have tutoring experience from when I was in high school and undergrad, but no formal teaching experience. While tutoring in the past, I helped students who were my age at the time but am comfortable tutoring elementary school to upper level college courses. I usually tutored one-on-one but would be willing to tutor in groups if discussed beforehand. I prefer to use active learning tutoring strategies with real-world applications. I find it is much easier to learn a difficult subject if you know why you are doing it! A few of the strategies I like to use when tutoring are performing practice problems together and having the student walk me through problems to help gain better understanding.

I am willing to meet online or at a public location for tutoring. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions. Thank you and I look forward to working with you!" less...
