"Hello students! My name is Katelyn. I am an English coach that specializes in American English pronunciation and accent reduction. I have worked with students from all over the world in pronunciation development. I started my career at the Boston Language Institute in 2018 and continued to teach pronunciation at private institutes such as OISE Boston and FLS International. My goal is to help English learners improve their American accent. I have worked with business professionals as well as college students to improve their speech intelligibility. When we have the gift of being multilingual, the English pronunciation of words can be influenced due to our other languages. I think accents are beautiful because they show us where we are from, however, there are times accents might get in the way of being understood when presenting, talking with friends, or in your work setting. This is where I come in! I have a bachelor's degree from Southern Connecticut State University in communication disorders. I also have my license as a speech therapist assistant and a master's degree in international higher education from Lesley University. Additionally, I have worked with students from Japan, China, India, South Korea, France, Italy, Russia, Sweden, Colombia, Brazil and more, so I have good idea of the common pronunciation issues students experience from these areas. I first start out a pronunciation lesson by doing a pronunciation diagnostic to observe what sounds you need help with. I then go into training you how to make the sound with your mouth and how to recognize when to use it. We will practice making the sounds and include role play exercises so you are able to feel confident when speaking with others.
