"What do I tutor?

Accent reduction. I have taught General American pronunciation to speakers of twenty-one of the world's forty most spoken languages, some smaller languages like Belarusian, Catalan, Maghrebi Arabic, Hebrew, Kyrgyz, Malayalam, Polish, Estonian, Swedish, Yoruba, Ewondo, and Taiwanese Hokkien, and other dialects of English.

Dialect coaching. I coach actors in a General American accent and several others. Ask me about the accent you're interested in.

Lyric diction. I have given seminars and written IPA transcriptions for choirs singing in Ecclesiastical Latin, Middle English, French, Czech, and Slovak. I have given private lyric diction tutoring for individual singers in English (both General American and Received Pronunciation), Italian, French, German, Russian, Czech, Slovak, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, Old Spanish, German Latin, Tagalog, and several others.

Phonetics and phonology. I have done monolingual fieldwork demonstrations working with languages that have no writing system yet. I teach university students phonetics and phonology regardless of field of study. I provide feedback on broad and narrow phonetic transcriptions.

How am I as a tutor?

I like to be encouraging but honest, to give balanced feedback that includes what was done well and what needs work. I use visuals and provide outside work to help you grow in your understanding of phonetics. I love teaching motivated and hardworking students.

I have taught accent reduction for more than 5 years. I taught Spanish, French, and phonetics at a public middle school for three years. I taught Spanish at a public high school for one year. I have degrees in Music Education and World Languages Education as well as an unfinished masters in Applied Linguistics. When I was a public school teacher I had certifications in Spanish K-12, French K-12, Music K-12, Generalist (core subjects) 4-8, and ESL. I have passed the B2 CEFR for French and Swedish and tested into Dalet-level for Hebrew and HSK 4 for Mandarin Chinese." less...
