"Hello, my name is Michelle and I am a scholar, educator, and artist. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Anthropology/Sociology from Florida International University’s Honor’s College, a Master’s in Dance Education from New York University, and I am currently pursuing a PhD in Critical Dance Studies at the University of California at Riverside. For 10 years, I taught at NYU as an adjunct professor, where I taught courses such as Anthropology of Dance, Hip Hop Dance Culture, and Afro-Caribbean Dance. My time at NYU greatly influenced my approach to teaching, which is rooted in culturally relevant pedagogy, highlighting a student-centered and community-first approach.

In addition to my experience at NYU, I have taught full-time at a private school for grades 6-12 and have volunteered in independent schools, teaching writing and working closely with students on their academic development. I believe in fostering an inclusive learning environment where students’ unique backgrounds and experiences are valued. I aim to make learning engaging and accessible by using diverse methods that cater to various learning styles. By focusing on the whole student, I strive to create meaningful connections to the material, empowering students to think critically and creatively to ensure their success.
