"Hi, I'm Mark! I'm an advanced writer and educator, with a Master's in English from New York University. In my undergraduate studies, I found that many of my peers were frustrated in their English classes, thrown into a topic they didn't feel passionate about. I believe that writing skills should be accessible for everyone, so I decided to become a consultant at my university's writing center. There, I met countless brilliant individuals studying medicine, chemistry, computer science, and other subjects where they were required to demonstrate their understanding of complex ideas clearly and consistently. By working with me on their writing, researching, and citation skills, these students were able to ensure that their work could be perfected for the classroom and beyond.
At the graduate level, I have completed many complex written pieces, both long and short form. I have also studied literature in English and other European languages, and am eager to share my education with others. My scholarly work at NYU spanned from the medieval era to contemporary novels, using historical education to inform my writing.
In addition to my academic experience, I have spent almost eight years working in childcare (ages 5-12), the last four years of which were in an administrative position where I oversaw teen and young adult employees (ages 14-30). This experience of working to support individuals in a wide range of age and needs taught me to think creatively about how to adjust my teaching for different audiences. From explaining games or crafts to exploring different research databases, my ability to guide students to a deeper understanding has helped bring them new confidence.
I feel certain that each student can benefit from one-on-one instruction, which is why I find tutoring to be such a powerful resource. I am eager to discuss each student's needs for their classroom work, as well as their individual goals. Thank you for reading and I look forward to hearing from you!" less...
