"My passion for music started when I heard my brother and his friends play chamber music. When I was 8 years old, I was intrigued with the viola but it was too big of an instrument for me so I started his musical career with a violin. In two years I had grown enough that I switched to the beloved viola. I have now studied the viola for 9 years. I currently study with Masumi Per Rostad at the Eastman School of Music. I’ve taught and tutored many students for about 4 years now. In my freshman year of highschool I was assigned principal violist of the All Northwest Orchestra. In 2021, I was a Concerto Division Honoree for the Seattle Young Artists Festival and won 1st place in both Concerto and Solo divisions of the Performing Arts Festival of the Eastside. In 2019, I won Seattle Youth Symphony’s Concerto Competition, was first alternate for the Seattle Young Artist Music Festival Senior High Strings Concerto, and was honorable mention for the MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) and Rising Star Cascade Symphony competitions. I also attended the Heifetz Institute in 2020 where I had the opportunity to study with Michael Klotz (Florida International University), Nicholas Cords (New England Conservatory), Martha Strongin Katz (New England Conservatory), and the violist of the Grammy Award-winning Emerson Quartet, Lawrence Dutton (Stony Brook University). Outside of solo performances, I served as the principal violist of the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra. I also enjoy chamber music, where I have been coached by Seattle Symphony musicians such as Leonid Keylin and Nathan Chan. In May of 2022, I performed the first movement of the Walton Viola Concerto with the Seattle Youth Chamber Orchestra at Benaroya Hall and with the Mercer Island Chamber Orchestra at the Mercer Island High School Performing Arts Center." less...
