"Educational Background:
I hold a Master of Arts in General and Special Education (Grades 1-6) from Relay Graduate School of Education (3.9 GPA) and am currently pursuing my Ed.D. in Leadership and Innovation at Concordia University Wisconsin (4.0 GPA). I completed the School Building Leader Certification Program through the College of Saint Rose and earned my B.A. in English Language Arts from Hunter College, CUNY.
Teaching and Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching middle school mathematics since 2018, with over six years of classroom experience in 6th grade, 7th grade, and Algebra 1. I currently teach in NYC District 23, working with students across multiple grade levels using differentiated instruction strategies.
From 2021-2023, I taught 6th-grade mathematics in an ICT setting in NYC District 32 as the Special Education teacher. I provided one-on-one and small group instruction through SETTS, created targeted math intervention groups, and developed individualized support plans based on assessment data. Previously, I spent three years in NYC District 5 teaching 6th and 7th-grade mathematics while serving on the Instructional Leadership Team, analyzing student performance data to inform teaching strategies.
My Approach:
I break down complex concepts into manageable steps, use real-world applications to make math relevant, and build confidence through incremental successes. I specialize in working with students who struggle with math anxiety or have learning differences, using my special education training to adapt explanations and pacing to each student's needs. I utilize data-driven instruction, regularly assessing understanding and adjusting my approach based on what works for each individual.
I have experience teaching students ages 11-14 in classroom settings (25-30 students) and small group interventions (3-5 students). My special education background enables me to provide one-on-one instruction addressing specific learning gaps, executive functioning challenges, and test-taking strategies." less...
