My name is Bernie and I am an experienced teacher and tutor. I have taught both adults and children a variety of subjects, and I have also been the Chief Operating Officer of the Providence Public Schools. I have a B.S. in Chemistry & Mathematics, a M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction, and I am a doctoral candidate in Educational Leadership & Policy at Boston University.

I have taught all levels of high school and middle school mathematics, and I have taught college-level chemistry & education courses, including Introduction to Research Methods, a statistics-heavy introduction to social science research. My undergraduate degree is from the University of Houston and it is in Chemistry and Mathematics.

There is a fundamental difference between "teaching" and "tutoring"; tutoring, when done well, focuses on addressing the individual needs of the student being tutored. I work very hard on asking the right questions to assess a student's needs so I can focus on what needs to be done to help the student learn and grow. I'm pretty straight forward, and I believe in the "I show, you watch; I do - you do; You do, I watch" theory of tutoring - we will practice until I know you know how to do it.
