"I’m Amber, an elementary math and science educator with over 5 years of experience in building confident and engaged mathematicians. I graduated from Trinity Washington University with a 3.4 in Community Health with a focus in Science Education. I have tutored students throughout my career, primarily with upper elementary school grades 2nd-5th. I have worked heavily in the Washington D.C. area having previously tutored with the PrepEx after school program with DC Prep and the Sister II Sister mentoring program based in the Hampton Roads community. Scholars are exposed to a variety of strategies to help build concrete and abstract skills to tackle grade level standards. I have a primary focus in grades 2nd-5th where concepts of place value, algebraic operations, and foundational geometry are explored. I am currently a 4th grade math teacher licensed in Washington, D.C. in the areas of elementary mathematics and science, two fields where foundational literacy is extremely important. Having served the Washington Metropolitan area, I take this responsibility quite seriously and am excited to immerse scholars in the world of math and science outside of the classroom.
I have taught two years of K-6 science and 2 years of K-6 math, primarily in 3rd and 4th grade and have executed small group style and 1:1 instruction based on grade level standards to help scaffold lessons for scholars that may be behind. I also implemented weekly incentives to motivate student growth and foster a relationship with the scholar. I believe in open and transparent communication with families in order to ensure a scholar’s growth and confidence is prioritized." less...
