"Hi, I'm Achyut! I graduated with a Bachelor's in chemical engineering, a Masters in biomedical engineering, and an MBA degree. From high school to the end of college, I assisted my mother in her tutoring business, helping students in math, reading/writing, and science. I've found that being a patient & easy-going teacher works best with students. Typically, they would come to me with a specific assignment. I would first explain to them the importance of the topic at hand. I would then take them step-by-step on how to answer those types of questions. I would then have the students try a few questions, ensuring they come up with the solution themselves. I would always be there for any questions they have. It is important to emphasize I always keep in mind that the students should find joy in the various subjects they are taking.
Apart from academics, I have been playing sports my whole life. Two sports I enjoyed and still enjoy are tennis and chess. I played college tennis, as well as reaching a chess rating of around 1800 USCF. I have been teaching both for a few years now. When a tennis student comes to me, I first assess where they are at with their game. After a dynamic warmup, I would hit a few balls with the kids, seeing what their strengths and weaknesses are. After, I would discuss what I noticed in the students game, and make a game plan on how to improve certain shots. A similar mindset is implemented when I teach chess. I would play a game or two and assess where the student is at. I would then discuss with them what I saw, and make a game plan for them. For both tennis and chess, being a patient teacher is essential to ensure the student is enjoying what they are doing!
I have tutored kids one on one from elementary school to high school. I have taught tennis to beginners & intermediate players. I have also taught chess to beginners and intermediate players. My mindset is always to keep the environment light, allowing the students to learn as efficiently as possible." less...
