"Hi! My name is Cynthia & I’d love to tell you about my tutoring and teaching background.

I have a 14 year background in teaching English Language Learners in high school settings. During this time, I have: developed scaffolded curriculum for 9th - 12th graders, completed multiple training opportunities in Social Emotional Learning (including Trauma-informed Teaching & Grief Informed Teaching).

On top of my 14 years in ELL, I am now in my 2nd year of working in the Academic Support room in my building. Here, I’ve endeavored to create a student-centered environment where those who have difficulties succeeding in a mainstream classroom can experience growth and success in an alternative learning environment.

Before becoming a teacher, I worked as a writing instructor at Simmons College, during which time I co-designed the curriculum for a program called Bridge to Graduate Education Program. At this time, I served as the 6-month interim leader of a team of fifteen writing tutors at the university's Student Support Services.

My first tutoring job was when I was a freshman writing tutor at Cerritos Community College in Cerritos, California. That was all the way back in 1998. Which gives me a total of 25 years of tutoring experience besides the 15+ years of teaching experience that I've got under my belt

With my strong command of both English and Spanish, extensive education experience, and a strong background in customer service, I believe I would be an asset to your academic journey.
