"Hi, I'm Ryan! I'm an Astrochemist with a PhD in Astronomy & Astrophysics from Harvard and an undergraduate background in Astronomy, Physics, and Physical Chemistry from the University of Virginia. I'm currently an Associate Scientist at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory and adjunct faculty at UVA. In my role at NRAO I oversee heuristics development for the Atacama Large Millimeter Array - the most powerful interferometric telescope in the world, and I am a co-Investigator for the NSF-Simons CosmicAI Institute where we are researching the development of cutting edge AI techniques for Astronomy.
I started my academic journey (both studying and tutoring) at Blue Ridge Community College in VA, and have continually taught since then, tutoring math, physics, and chemistry at UVA during undergrad and then serving as a teaching assistant for a gen-ed course in astrobiology while a PhD student at Harvard. In my current role at NRAO, I've supervised and mentored multiple undergraduate students and co-supervised a PhD student, along with informally mentoring and tutoring many other students.
My background and mentoring/tutoring style is strongly geared towards helping students understand the *why* behind their questions. If you just want to score higher on a test or learn by memorizing, I'm not the right tutor for you. But if you want learn how to make the mental connections about how things fit together and truly understand the fundamental concepts, then I'm excited to help you on that journey!" less...
