"I've been teaching chemistry ever since my little sister needed help getting through her nursing program, and I've been improving as a teacher ever since. I currently teach high school chemistry and physics, but I have also taught upper-level college courses and tutored in many other disciplines (math and physics to name a few).

My teaching is personalized to the student, but is also deeply informed by my own background in science. I earned my PhD in chemistry from the University of Chicago and performed research at Emory University and MIT; these experiences help me provide great insight into the real world applications of chemistry. But even though my research is beneficial, my true love is teaching. I've taught and tutored hundreds of students, and have won multiple teaching and tutoring awards, on the recommendation and nomination of both my students and colleagues. Even with this recognition, my favorite reward is the student evaluation I get at the end of each course, which shows me how much my students value me as an effective and engaging/fun teacher.

My teaching style focuses on the student - I strive to recognize where the student is coming from, what experience s/he has in different areas, and how I can use that background to deliver a custom-made lesson. Moreover, I value the importance of real-world applications in teaching, because theory is much easier to comprehend if you can associate it with something that really matters. This teaching philosophy has worked wonders for a variety of students, and also makes my relationship with my students much more fulfilling. By engaging the student and emphasizing the practicality of what we're learning, I can not only teach a student, but also endow him/her with the critical thinking skills that will increase both scores and appreciation for the subject.
