"Hi! I’m Dr. Maria, and I don’t just teach math; I live it!
My journey began early, attending university courses and completing Calculus I-IV and Linear Algebra before high school graduation. This unique path gave me a firsthand understanding of what it means to truly challenge oneself and navigate the struggles of advanced mathematics.
I earned my PhD in Pure Mathematics from Western Michigan University, specializing in Graph Theory and Combinatorics. While my research is rigorous, my passion lies in making math accessible—and fun! Throughout my academic career, I taught everything from Finite Math to Calculus and committed myself to the latest pedagogical practices. I am proud to have earned several competitive awards, including:
The Charles Butler Award for Teaching Excellence
The HHMI Stipend
WMU Signature: Teaching for Student Success
My Philosophy: No "One-Size-Fits-All" With 17 years of one-on-one tutoring experience and a decade spent mentoring academically gifted and neurodivergent students, I believe every student has the capacity for excellence when provided the right lens. I get to know each student personally to create a custom success plan that makes our sessions engaging and memorable. Math should be fun, not scary! Whether you are seeking elite performance or need help getting back on track, I combine high-level expertise with a mindset-focused approach to help you conquer your goals.
Life Beyond the Whiteboard: In my free time, I enjoy reading, gardening, hiking, fishing, and watching football and golf. I have a friendly three-year-old Shiba Inu who keeps me on my toes (and is happy to join in on tutoring sessions if requested!). My pursuit of growth has also led me to work as a data specialist, a farm hand, a volunteer for adults with special needs, and an award-winning business owner.
