"I hold a B.A. in Philosophy and Economics from Swarthmore College. I also studied abroad at Worcester College, Oxford University.
At Swarthmore College, I founded an interdisciplinary readings- and discussion-based group dedicated to exploring a wide range of subjects across philosophy, history, economics, and political theory. Although I did not occupy a formal teaching position, I designed syllabi/agendas for our program each semester and led weekly discussions on the material included therein (which often involved teaching it to students without any background in the relevant fields). Our reading lists included works by such thinkers as Aristotle, Leo Strauss, and Samuel Huntington.
I believe that proper understanding of a subject is best achieved by a holistic engagement with the problems involved. Knowledge is not a mere aggregate of information that one acquires through specialized study but a paradigm that allows us to make sense of the world. My general method of teaching seeks to first identify where a student is in his or her learning and then integrate what knowledge they already have into a more comprehensive framework that will give them new perspective on their area of study.
I offer tutoring services in the following:
READING & WRITING - I am able to assist with reading comprehension and developing proper writing techniques (including both essay planning and revision in any field of study).
PHILOSOPHY - In addition to help with both reading and writing, I can offer strategies for exam preparation. My current areas of interest are metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of science, philosophy of history, social theory/political philosophy, and history of philosophy.
ECONOMICS - Depending on the student and their needs, I can assist with understanding difficult concepts, solving problem sets, and exam preparation. I have experience with introductory economics, micro- and macroeconomics (including international trade and finance), financial economics, and econometrics." less...
