"Growing up, I always enjoyed learning and did well in school because of it. I scored a 36 on the science portion of the ACT and my lowest score was a 29 in math. I also scored a 5 on my AP Psychology exam. I then graduated as valedictorian of my class. For my first two years of college, I attended Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, where I earned a certificate in General Studies and an A.A. in University Transfer. I completed my college education at West Virginia University Institute of Technology, where I earned a B.A. (summa cum laude) in Psychology. I was also inducted into Psi Chi.
While I hope to one day pursue a Ph.D. in Psychology, my education plans are currently on pause. As such, I hope to help other students learn and succeed in their own education plans. I kept a lot of my college textbooks and notes, allowing me to not only frequently refresh myself on the material but also quickly look up any questions I may not immediately know the answer to. Also, in college, I took a couple of math classes remotely, where my teacher was in a different location. They weren't quite the same as my in-person math classes, so I understand that online learning can feel different. Whether in-person or online, however, there are two very important principles that I follow. One, students should feel comfortable asking any questions they have and expressing any confusion that arises. Two, if a student does not understand something the way it is being taught, it is usually best to find another way of approaching the material. What matters most is not sticking to a particular method but ensuring the student learns.
While psychology is the field I am most familiar with, I am also confident in my ability to teach the ACT. Taking tests like the ACT can be very stressful, especially when a student is considering their future college plans and how a bad score may affect them. I hope to ease that stress as much as possible by helping students learn the material and feel more confident in taking the test." less...
