"I'm Robert! I have been a tutor in a professional capacity for two years now, and informally since high school. I currently work with students ranging all the way from third grade to college-level. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Physics and a Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. My study included elective coursework in physics education, and I hold a certificate of eligibility to teach in Florida. I have worked for two years in ninth grade Algebra 1 and Geometry classrooms. My work there largely consists of individualized support, but I have also gained experience tutoring small groups of students and even whole-class instruction. I have also privately tutored in a 1-on-1 setting for about two years in subjects including calculus, physics, and computer science.
My biggest goal in tutoring is to foster not only material understanding, but a positive outlook toward learning challenges. Students are too often jaded and discouraged so that they completely give up - in the classroom, I've frequently had students ask for help before even reading the question. Students frequently know more than they realize, and half the battle is to encourage students to use the tools they have, not being afraid of productive struggle. There's nothing as rewarding as seeing a student come to the "Aha!" moment and realize that they got there themselves!
If you need tutoring in algebra, calculus, physics, or computer science, please reach out! I will look forward to working with you!" less...
