"I’m Jose Pablo. I have an undergraduate degree in computer science and an MBA. I specialize in tutoring math, grades 3 - 9. I am a Manager at a major transportation company and proud father to three children, ranging in age from 10 to 17. I have always enjoyed assisting them with their math homework and fostering a love of the subject with them. Our household firmly believes in the importance of a strong math foundation. When I was a young adult, I spent time substitute teaching, where I enjoyed many diverse experiences in education. I also spent time working as a counselor at a local university, traveling to various schools and teaching kids about the value of higher education. Lastly, I tutored other students in college, focusing on math and computer science.
During tutoring, I get each student to walk me through their thought process to ensure they properly understand the methods used to solve a problem. It’s not enough for me to explain it; I want each student to be able to work a problem and explain the process they’re using to solve it. This can confirm to me that they grasp the concept.
I also incorporate real world examples into problems, especially in math. Solving for x can get boring, but trying to figure out your win/loss ratio on a video game, or figuring out your batting average keeps the subject interesting.
The most fulfilling part of tutoring is witnessing the lightbulb moment when a student masters a concept or overcomes a struggle. Helping kids learn different ways to solve a problem is not only rewarding but fun, as I get to see firsthand how the child puts it into practice independently." less...
