"Hi! My name is Abhijnana, and I graduated from UC Berkeley in 2021 where I majored in Physics and Molecular and Cellular Biology, with a concentration in Neurobiology. After graduating, I worked in a neuroscience lab as a research assistant at Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, and I am going to attend the University of Rochester this coming fall to pursue an MS in Biostatistics.
I have been immersed in STEM classes my whole life, and have years of experience with teaching and tutoring. I started tutoring in 2016 in high school by helping fellow students with their classes in one-on-one settings, and have continued to do so ever since. I expanded my teaching ventures in college when I started working part-time for the Art of Problem Solving, an online STEM school for advanced middle and high school students, where I helped them with their problem sets and then graded them and provided feedback. I also have experience teaching larger classes from my time as a teaching assistant at Berkeley as well as teaching classes at Rtapalli Vidyapitha, a grades 6-10 school in India. I find it very fulfilling working with students to not only help them gain confidence and get ahead in their studies, but to also instill a passion for learning and understanding, which I find serves them far beyond just the classroom.
I am a big proponent of learning by doing - throwing huge amounts of information at students and having them memorize and regurgitate it not only makes learning dull, but also does not allow students to truly learn the fundamentals and main concepts from the material. Instead, building concepts from the ground up by guiding students through problems is much more effective and enjoyable, which is why I utilize this approach whenever possible.
I want to help my students succeed as much as possible, so I welcome any feedback or resources students or parents may have. I typically respond quite quickly and am always happy to answer any questions - I hope to hear from you soon!" less...
