"Hello, I am Sebastián! I’m a Mexican citizen with an IB Diploma and a Mexican High School (graduated from CETYS Universidad) diploma with a converted unweighted GPA of 3.84, awarded as a distinguished student every semester of my three high school years due to my participation in the Mexican Mathematics Olympiad and my high scores (9.6 to 9.9 out of 10).
In my Olympiad experience, volunteer tutors were essential for learning, but they also taught me the importance of passion and enthusiasm in a learning environment. I competed seven years in a row at a national level, getting six awards: three bronze medals and three honorable mentions. After graduation, I became an in-person and online Olympiad volunteer tutor (in Spanish) at the elementary (grades 4-6, from 9-12 year olds), middle (grades 6-9, from 12-15 year olds), and high school (grades 10-11, from 15-17 year olds) levels for two years. I tutored students one-on-one and in small groups (5 to 20 students).
I taught mathematics from elementary to undergraduate Geometry, Number Theory, Combinatorics, and Algebra. I relied on the Olympiad’s resources, which had theory and problems with diverse difficulties. I first explained the theory, solving any questions that arose. Then, I let students try the easier problems to grasp the topic’s essence, always open to explain or give tips to solve these if needed (solving as a group or individually the harder problems at the end), but I always want my students to try before asking for help!
I believe in the importance of active learning, which led me to study Computer Science (focused on pure math) at Minerva University. I enjoy applying mathematics as much as dwelling in theory; I find both areas fascinating.
I am open to free consultation meetings (around 15 minutes) before booking classes. In these meetings, we can discuss what topics you want to work on and how you want to learn (any resources or comments are welcome). I’m also open to answering any other questions or concerns you may have outside of meeti" less...
