"I grew up in a bilingual (Spanish/English) home; my father was born in Veracruz, México, and has given me Spanish. Since then, I’ve independently studied Spanish grammar in-depth so that I could be confident that I was using the language correctly. This gave me a big advantage when I started to learn French. Since there are many similarities between Spanish and French grammar, it took me only two years to learn French with no previous French exposure or experience. I started French in 10th grade, and I took AP French Language and Culture V in 11th grade. Now I currently study Finnish at the University of Minnesota.

I enjoy helping others learn languages, and I’ve been considering becoming a language teacher in the future. When I was in high school, other students would come to me with questions about French or Spanish. I always loved being able to help.

All of my experience means that I can relate to both beginning and advanced language learners plus I have experience with the AP language test. I understand the perspective of learning a new language completely from scratch, so I’m aware of the places where language learners may need the most help. I also took Introduction to Linguistics at the University of Minnesota and easily got an A and so I would love to help other students who find it difficult." less...
