"Hi- I'm Charlene!

I graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor's degree in Economics and completed a Post-Baccalaureate in pre-med studies at Washington University in St. Louis. As an undergrad, I was the designated math and science tutor for high schoolers at Roosevelt International Academy, so I have many years of tutoring experience in high school math (Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calc, Calculus), Biology, and Chemistry, while also being familiar with the course curriculums. At Washington University in St. Louis, I tutored fellow post-bac students who needed help in pre-med courses (specifically General Chemistry and Physics) and was selected to lead the Help Desk for General Chemistry. I also received a Fulbright Grant upon graduating from Brown to teach English in South Korea and developed an English academic program for 600 students at Baeyoung High School focusing on US culture.

One of my most rewarding experiences as an undergrad was being a tutor to a high school of international students preparing to apply for colleges in the US. I quickly learned that many of my students were reluctant to admit to not knowing or not understanding difficult concepts. As their tutor and a student who has also been in similar situations, I understood their fear of looking "stupid" and realized that my students needed reassurance that I was solely here for them and that there was absolutely nothing wrong with asking me to clarify something again and again. I would also reassure them that if they did not grasp a concept that I had explained, it was my fault as their teacher for not being clearer or explaining it differently in a way that they would be able to comprehend.

My goal as a tutor is to support and help my students succeed, therefore I always welcome any suggestions/resources students or parents can provide. I am easy to reach and will always respond quickly, so feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule our first lesson!

Hope to hear from you soon!
