"I'm Mae, pleased to meet you! I graduated from WashU in St. Louis in 2024 with a BS in Computer Engineering and MS in Engineering Management. In 2022 I graduated from Colgate University with a BA in Physics, with a Computer Science minor. At WashU, I was an Assistant Instructor for two upper-level engineering courses; Optimization, and Probability & Statistics. My students were undergraduate to graduate level, and I held recitations (5-10 students) and one-on-one tutoring. In high school, I tutored English to Chinese students one-on-one for two years. I also taught English and Chinese for 3 years, in classroom settings of 20-60 students.
Prior to Lesson: Prior to our *first* lesson, I ask for the students' course content, syllabus, and/or primary textbook(s) for the course. I will use this material to plan lessons that correspond directly to the class content. Prior to *each* lesson, I ask that you provide any homework assignments, student's notes from class, tests, and/or quizzes. This material is critical for identifying weaknesses and fine-tuning my lesson plan. If necessary, I will assist the student with note-taking tips and formats to apply in class that will assist both of us during the tutoring session.
During Lesson: My lesson will begin with asking the student what they learned since our last lesson. This is followed by a quick review of what we went over in our previous lessons, and how their new lessons stem from them. This establishes a progressive, organized timeline while ensuring that the foundation is sturdy before building upwards. We then begin review of missed questions on homeworks, quizzes and tests, if applicable. We will then go over the most recent class content, and some practice questions (prepared by myself). Remaining time will be spent giving a brief overview of what they should be prepared to learn in their next lessons. I will go over formulas and concepts and have the student take down some notes to have with them in class." less...
