"My name is Travis and I'm a Caltech PhD with extensive teaching and tutoring experience. I have been a high school math teacher (advanced math courses), a college TA in chemical engineering, a tutor for collegiate math and science courses, as well as a professional tutor to a range of private students in math and chemistry (individuals and group settings). I am currently a professor at the Claremont colleges.

Math and science have been a passion of mine ever since I was a teenager. In high school, I excelled in all core AP classes and was valedictorian of my class. I graduated magna cum laude from BYU with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and then earned a master's degree and PhD in the same discipline from Caltech. My expertise lies in math and chemistry, but am also well versed in physics and biology.

Additionally, I lived in Cape Verde for two years and speak Portuguese fluently. I have 4 years of experience teaching curriculum-based Portuguese speaking, reading and writing.

When I tutor, the teacher inside of me comes out and I want to ensure that students are learning, not just regurgitating information that I feed them. My purpose is to help them learn, not do their homework for them. With over 10 years of experience, I have learned a lot about how to help students learn and to ensure that they actually learned the principles I am teaching them.
