"Hello! I received my BA in both Physics and Astrophysics, then completed my PhD in Astrophysics at Caltech, where I studied exploding stars. After school, I worked at the NASA Jet Propulsion Lab designing spacecraft systems for different concept missions, such as to Venus, the Moon, and outer planets. I then transitioned into doing modeling and analysis for renewable energy startups, and I now run my own consultancy providing those services.
I did not always feel confident about my abilities in physics or the underlying math I needed to pursue this career. I know what it’s like to look at a page of equations and feel intimidated! With support from a few great and empathetic teachers, I transformed my relationship with science and was able to turn what I thought was a weakness into my greatest strength. This is the kind of support I would like to provide to others.
I have tutored at the high school level in a variety of subjects, and I have been a TA for undergraduate and graduate astrophysics courses. As a TA for an Intro to Astronomy class at Caltech, I was so successful in planning and teaching my own section that, based on feedback from the students, I was made Head TA and put in charge of preparing review questions and running exam prep office hours for all sections. In my style of tutoring, I like to put the student in the driver’s seat as much as possible to watch how they are approaching problems, adding guidance and asking key questions where I see gaps and sticking points.
I provide support in Physics and Math for middle, high school, and introductory college levels, as well as some advanced courses in Astronomy/Astrophysics. I can help with learning to code, and including object-oriented programming, especially in Python. I am also happy to discuss helping with middle and high school Chemistry and other sciences as well as writing, including technical and scientific writing. Please reach out with any questions, and I’d be happy to schedule a free consultation to see if we’re fit!" less...
