"I graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2015. I majored in Chemistry and then made the transition to Chemistry education my Junior year, which is when I realized that my true passion was for helping others learn and appreciate science. In college, I worked with a chemistry professor and together we developed an online tutorial program to help college chemistry students with their problem solving skills. All throughout my years at UW, I was always tutoring students. I would find myself tutoring my friends, acquaintances, or I'd be tutoring as a side job with a local high school program.
In the fall of 2015, I took my first teaching job at a High School of the Arts. I've been teaching chemistry and AP Chemistry there ever since. I still tutor students, but now they're my students, and it's usually during my lunch hour.
Throughout my years in education, I've begun to understand just how important it is to teach to a student's unique learning style. There is no one-size-fits-all solution to any student's education. What is required, rather, is an understanding of who the student is and what strengths they bring to the table. My goal when I teach is to help students understand that the content in front of them, while complicated, can be learned if they understand how to relate the material to the things they already know and are good at. That way, students begin to see themselves as an integral part of the solution, and they begin to develop the confidence and ownership that accompany true learning.
Please contact me if you're interested in learning more. Let's schedule a preliminary lesson and see if I'd be a good fit for your child." less...
