"Hello! My name is Ms. Jennifer, a certified, former English educator with eight years' experience in the classroom (2016-2025) and over a decade tutoring students of all ages. As a full-time Wyzant tutor, I’m excited about sharing my experience teaching grades 6-12, AP English and literature, honors English I-IV, and French I-II. My educational background includes a B.A. in English (Dean’s List), M.A. in teaching English (3.86 GPA, Honors), and a minor in French.
Each lesson is dynamic and productive with a discussion-based approach. Using my library of engaging curriculum, I can do a systematic review of most secondary novels and English-related topics like reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling. First, I use text-based writing tasks for argumentative, expository, analytical, and narrative writing. For building strong literacy skills, I use classic grade-level texts, Scholastic’s digital magazines, StoryWorks and Scope, and recent news articles. Furthermore, I use IXL’s massive library of interactive exercises for all K-12 standards and custom course plans for all state and national tests in addition to a full diagnostic that tells us what grade level your child scored in reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary.
Additionally, I’m a test-prep expert, always using the best and newest materials available from the most trusted sources. With access to the College Board’s 3500-question bank for the SAT and PSAT, a full SAT grammar course, Princeton and the ACT practice exams and online question banks, along with the Fun ACT prep course with skill-by-skill and question-by-question exam prep, your student is guaranteed to feel confident on test day.
My students are doing amazing things like placing finals in the John Locke Junior Essay Writing Competition, earning the highest scores in the history of a 100-year-old Catholic school on the ACT Aspire, and placing in honors English. I would love to work with you and your family. Message me to find out more about how I can help!" less...
