"I graduated with a B.S. in Forensic Chemistry in 2011 and immediately began working in a health-based laboratory. Between the years of 2012 and the end of summer 2019 I worked in the aforementioned lab as well as a tobacco testing laboratory. During the later part of this range, I was also going to graduate school online to attain a M.S. in Secondary Education, which I graduated with in 2021. I have a valid 10-year teaching license for VA that expires in 2032.

I have worked in the teaching field since fall of 2019, and I have taught high school chemistry every year in that timeframe. I have also taught earth science, although I have not finished my endorsement in this area, and Advanced Placement chemistry. While I have yet to actively tutor online, I have used online platforms and tutored in person for students at my school. I take a hands-on approach to teaching where I utilize the different learning styles in an attempt to reach all levels of students. Being in Virginia, I do have a standardized test that I am required to use for concepts and pacing, however, I also include any extra information that I feel truly shows the essence of the subject. I do not simply "teach to the test".

When teaching high school chemistry, I am normally dealing with 11th graders who are preparing for their senior year and their college or job search after graduation. I have been known to assist in these endeavors whenever requested. I feel that my calling as a teacher is to be a mentor to the students as well as educator and I do my best to guide them in life if it seems necessary or requested. When teaching AP chemistry, I have seniors. These students are more difficult because they are ready to graduate and start their next journey. I spend the time with them explaining that being at the end of this time of their life does not mean that they should not still hold themselves accountable for their expectations and responsibilities. I truly enjoy helping my students completely and preparing them for their future." less...
