"I became a teacher, and now a devoted tutor, because I am passionate about helping others, and find it fulfilling to share my love of math and science with my students. I like to begin by asking my students about their background and experience with the given subject, to get a sense of their comfort level and preferred learning style. My teaching philosophy centers on building confidence and independence in my students. I aim to create an environment where learning is both effective and enjoyable, especially in subjects that some find challenging. My most essential goal as a teacher, and as a tutor, is to get you to a place where you can confidently do the work, and learn on your own.
I have 15 years of classroom teaching experience in math and science, as well as five years of tutoring in person, and almost a year online with Wyzant. I have taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, and Calculus, as well as Physical Science, AP Physics, and Introduction to Programming. I have tutored students from a wide range of backgrounds, across all time zones, in high school level math and science classes, as well as college students taking Calculus, Physics, and Computer Science. I’ve also helped numerous students with the math portions of the SAT and GED, offering both specific strategies to solve problems efficiently, how best to use Desmos, and also guidance about the most effective way to improve their scores.
We'll build your ability and understanding together regardless of whether you are just getting started, or just need a little help to get back on track. Let’s find a way to make math and science more approachable and rewarding. I’m here to support you." less...
