"I'm Justin! Over the past five years I have been fortunate enough to dedicate myself full-time to the pursuit of a PhD in Education at Johns Hopkins University. In many ways, this has been a dream opportunity that has allowed me the freedom to think deeply about complex issues confronting our society. During my time in this program, I have also worked as a course instructor at the master's level at Johns Hopkins. Prior to my enrollment in a PhD program, I received a master's degree in secondary mathematics education from Lehigh University and taught high school mathematics for four years. As a math teacher, I developed and presented materials for a variety of courses, including Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and AP Statistics. My instruction utilized a variety of pedagogical methods, including differentiated instruction, blending learning, and cross-curricular education. I also worked with students before and after the school day in a project-based learning environment to improve their understanding of the course material and its applications.
Prior to becoming a teacher in the United States, I received an undergraduate degree in engineering, managed projects for a small business, taught for two years overseas, and spent a full year traveling the world. This life experience combines with my teaching and research experience to help me present mathematics in a truly approachable and applicable manner to students. Mathematics, along with its underlying logic, can be a subject that cuts across various disciplines and life experiences, and my goal every day is to help students form meaningful connections to the material." less...
