"Hello,

My name is Serena and I am currently certified special education teacher. I got my undergraduate degree in special education with a reading endorsement. I got my masters degree in applied behavioral analysis because I am passionate about student behavior in regards to their learning. The first two years of my teaching experience I was a resource teacher servicing grades two through five. When I saw students, I focused my instruction around the various categories of reading math and writing.

I am currently a resource teacher and I service students in grades six-eighth. All of the students that I see have varying academic learning disabilities and an IEP. I am very familiar with all of the various learning preferences and plan my lessons with the students in mind. I focus my reading lesson plans on phonics, phonemic awareness, reading, fluency and reading comprehension. I’m a very patient teacher as I know a lot of students need extra time to learn and they may learn in different ways.

I have experience tutoring in a one-on-one situation and I am able to collect data regarding student growth to determine if different programs should be used. If a certain program or curriculum being used is not yielding the anticipated results I am always looking for different programs to use that keeps the students needs and interest in mind." less...
