"I am currently looking for some new students to join my team.

For 35 years, I taught all forms of reading and writing and held student conferences allowing one-on-one instruction. I taught students from preschool through eighth grade, mostly in upper grades. During my teaching, I found one-on-one instruction to be the most effective.

In retirement, tutoring is a perfect fit to continue my love of working one-on-one with students. I now tutor students from early elementary to adult in reading and writing, teaching components of English and grammar through writing.

I relish the opportunity to develop students' reading, writing, and language; the foundations for all education. While I work with students, I form a connection as I assess each student's current level. I meet students at their level and work from there, using modeling and supported practice until each student is comfortable. Next, I step back, giving more responsibility to the student, but still guiding as needed. Finally, I have the student complete the task independently, assessing if any skills still need work. There is no set way to work with students because each student is different; each student has different needs, and each student learns differently. Therefore, how I work with each student is different.

My goal is to instill and deepen a love of reading and writing in as many students as possible by expanding their comfort levels and skills. I know how to break down tasks, so they are more manageable. I recognize ways to make connections for students to make tasks understandable.
