"Hello! I am an enthusiastic, jovial, and self-proclaimed nerd for all things science, especially chemistry, biochemistry, and physics. However, my favorite subject is Organic Chemistry!
To summarize my educational background, I earned my A.A. from Broward College (BC), followed by my B.S. in biological sciences from Florida Atlantic University (FAU). During my undergraduate years, I was awarded the “Chemistry Student of the Year” award. I also performed organic chemistry research under Dr. Lepore, focused upon the diastereoselective addition of H-phosphinates to alkenyl ketones under phase-transfer conditions, (a mouthful. . . I know). I am currently pursuing my PhD in chemistry at FAU under Dr. Roche, where I am the lead-PhD student tasked with enhancing the stability of an anti-cancer nanobody drug. Over time, I discovered that my passion for science was intertwined with a love for teaching. It is a joy to help students succeed academically, foster critical-thinking, build confidence, and simplify complex material. I believe each student can succeed when the correct teaching and guidance is provided.
I have been a tutor for science and mathematics courses for the past 6 years, and I have been a tutor for undergraduate/graduate level organic chemistry for 4 years. I have tutored hundreds of undergraduates in Organic 1 and Organic 2, and several graduate students in Organic 3 and Organic 4. My tutoring goals are to help students: (1) understand which concepts and details are most important for success; (2) organize information into a format that’s easy to memorize; and (3) develop an applicable understanding of organic chemistry. I am comfortable working with students one-on-one, in groups of 2 – 6 students, and even groups of 20+ students, as I teach chemistry labs as a graduate. I also have experience teaching special-needs students, (i.e., ADHD, OCD). I am excited to help you on your Organic Chemistry journey, and I'm sure we’ll have a lot of laughs, as we overcome the chemistry craziness ahead." less...
