"Hi, I'm Emma! I am currently a graduate student at Columbia University's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences pursuing my PhD in Chemistry. I graduated summa cum laude from Stony Brook University with a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry with departmental honors. At Stony Brook, I was trained and certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) as a Level III master tutor. There, I tutored O college students in a one-on-one setting for three years through the school's Academic Success and Tutoring Center.

Unlike traditional private tutoring and teaching assistant office hours, the CRLA training taught me to heavily encourage and promote self-regulated learning in my tutees, using strategies such as guiding questions and active engagement, rather than just lecture my tutee on content. Through my own personal experience, it is evident how ineffective large class sizes are in the learning process and how important focused, private tutoring sessions are in truly understanding course content.

I prefer to get to know my tutees first and understand their preferred style of learning before setting up lesson plans.
