"I graduated with my PhD in Chemistry from University of California San Diego in 2020. My research was in the area of cell signaling. More specifically I synthesized a series of compounds and then I tested the ability of these compounds to inhibit a pro-inflammatory pathway in cells. Though I had always enjoyed math and science, my earlier collegiate studies were concentrated in the humanities. I studied history as an undergraduate at the University of New Orleans. I earned a post-graduate degree in British and EU law while studying abroad in London, UK. While I have experience tutoring across a wide spectrum of topics, my most recent teaching experience has been in general chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry.
As a graduate student, I taught organic chemistry laboratory for seven terms. I prepared brief laboratory lectures, wrote laboratory quizzes, and monitored student experiments. As a teaching assistant at UCSD, I hosted organic chemistry study sessions for groups and for individuals. As a researcher I have mentored several undergraduate students in chemistry. Before becoming a graduate student I tutored groups of students in general chemistry on a weekly basis. I have tutored students my whole life starting in elementary school and continuing through to the present. In addition to chemistry, I have helped students improve their writing, their math skills, and their reading skills.
As a post-doctoral researcher, I completed a course focused on the Three-Dimensional Learning Assessment Protocol. While I have always used modeling and crosscutting concepts to encourage student understanding rather than memorization, this course made me aware of additional resources for crafting questions and examples that promote active student engagement.
I love meeting students wherever they are in their learning journey and providing the support that will help them build confidence and achieve their learning goals." less...
