"I received my PhD in chemistry from the University of Minnesota in 2017. As a graduate student, my focus was on polymer chemistry and gene delivery, but one of my favorite parts about graduate school was mentoring undergraduate students and seeing them develop their skills in lab and in class. Once I completed my PhD, worked as an NIH postdoctoral fellow in a dentistry lab, focused on mRNA delivery for the treatment of oral cancer and gum disease. When I completed my postdoc in 2021, I began teaching chemistry full time at a college in Minnesota where I've been ever since.
Most of my teaching and tutoring experience has been with college or high school students. I find tutoring to be really rewarding because it allows me to tailor my instruction to exactly what the student needs. In addition to breaking down material and explaining individual concepts to students, I try to work with students to build their study skills so that they can become more effective independent learners as well. I am responsive to students needs, and your feedback will dictate my approach as we work to improve your skills. My hope is that students who work with me develop long-lasting skills that they will use in chemistry and in other classes as well.
During our first meeting, we'll discuss your goals for tutoring. I'll learn more about your learning style and the study strategies that have helped you the most, and we'll make sure that I'm a good fit to help you reach your goals. We'll talk about any concerns you have about learning chemistry and we'll discuss how you can overcome them. Finally, we'll work on one or two specific topics to get you going. Since the first meeting will mostly be informational, I offer a 50% rate for the first session." less...
