"My name is Kowsik, and I am an individual who strives to help students break down difficult concepts into smaller, manageable problems. From teaching multiplication and division of fractions in school, I discovered I love helping others’ understand concepts. I aim to create a collaborative environment where learning is interactive and engaging, meaning students feel free to ask any questions they have. I want my students to feel safe to address their confusions openly.
I graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Physiology, as an Honors Foundations Scholar with cum laude honors. Beyond academics, I worked as a Resident Assistant and interned at a Rehabilitation Center as a fitness trainer, roles which further developed my ability to explain concepts clearly and patiently while being empathetic to the people I am working with. Currently, I am a medical scribe working at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Ophthalmology.
My teaching experience includes WVUteach, where I helped create and deliver geometry lessons to my peers during COVID. I gained hands-on experience tutoring at one of the tutoring centers on campus, where I received feedback on effective teaching strategies. One of the biggest lessons I learned is that there are a variety of learning styles that other students have that are unlike the methods I use, and the best that I can do is use the skills and techniques taught to me to my advantage as I try to determine how best to tutor the students coming in.
Through the years, I’ve been more than happy to help my classmates each day with their math homework and study for exams. I understand math is a difficult concept, but I believe that with constructive teacher-student instruction , math can actually be fun and rewarding. In our tutoring sessions, I really want to help you, so I welcome feedback in order to be the best tutor for your needs." less...
