"I teach at the University of North Carolina, where I specialize in academic writing, creative writing, and literature. Before coming to UNC, I taught at the University of Houston and the University of Miami. In addition, I scored the AP Language exam for seven years. I can teach English and history to high school and college level students, but I'm also interested in working with non-traditional students. I've worked for years with students on their college entrance essays and personal statements. In addition, I enjoy helping students discover their creative writing skills (I'm a published novelist and screenwriter).

I've taught to all sorts of students, from first generation college kids to the children of politicians. I even once taught a Prince from a country that shall remain unnamed. Yet my approach to each student, no matter their background, is relatively consistent. It isn't experience that determines a successful student, but their willingness to engage with the material and try to make it relevant to their daily life. I hope to help my clients take that next step towards a greater understanding of the material. I also hope that they gain a sort of power over the subject that makes them curious about what comes afterward.

Finally, I like to spend a lot of time talking to my clients, working through the psychology of their academic concerns. This is especially true with writing.
